Storm Drain Stenciling Program
Residents can participate in the Storm Drain Stenciling Program, marking storm drains to remind the community that what enters these drains flows directly into our lakes and rivers. This initiative aims to raise awareness about preventing pollutants from reaching our waterways.
Landscaping for Clean Water Program
The Landscaping for Clean Water Program offers education and grants to residents interested in creating native plant gardens and rain gardens. These gardens help absorb rainwater, reducing runoff and filtering pollutants before they reach water bodies.
How You Can Help
Residents play a crucial role in protecting our water resources. Here are some actions you can take:
- Redirect Runoff: Use gutters, downspouts, rain chains, swales, and rain barrels to direct water to gardens and permeable areas, preventing it from flowing over hard surfaces.
- Maintain Storm Drains: Keep leaves, grass clippings, and fertilizers off driveways and streets, and out of storm drains. Consider adopting a drain to keep it clear of debris.
- Plant Native Vegetation: Establish native plant gardens or rain gardens to absorb rainwater and filter pollutants.
