In recent months, Minnesota has found itself at the center of a significant federal immigration enforcement initiative known as Operation Metro Surge. This operation, launched in December 2025, involved the deployment of thousands of federal immigration agents across the state, including our own Inver Grove Heights.

However, the operation’s execution has raised concerns among many residents. Reports indicate that a substantial number of those detained had no prior criminal records, leading to questions about the operation’s focus and effectiveness.
Our local community has felt the impact of this operation in various ways. Businesses, particularly those owned by immigrants, have reported decreased foot traffic and revenue. The heightened presence of federal agents has also instilled a sense of fear and uncertainty among residents, affecting daily activities and community cohesion.
