Background and Community Concerns
The moratorium was prompted by a proposal from Atlanta-based T5 Data Centers to develop a 55,000-square-foot facility on the former Travel Tags property at 5890 Carmen Ave. Residents have expressed concerns regarding potential noise pollution, increased water usage, and additional strain on sewer systems. The proposed data center would operate at up to 5 megawatts, equivalent to the energy consumption of approximately 1,000 to 2,000 households.
Legal Challenges and Council’s Response
Following the council’s initial approval of the moratorium, QLevr LLC, the property owner, threatened legal action, arguing that their application, submitted prior to the moratorium vote, should be exempt. In response, the council decided to delay further decisions and revisit the topic in June to carefully consider the legal implications and community feedback.
