Guide to Exploring Inver Grove Heights: Days Out & Local Favorites

Hi neighbors! I’m Mia Erickson, taking you through a collection of attractions, parks, and things to do in Inver Grove Heights—some are perfect for a sunny afternoon, others great when the weather sends us indoors.

Outdoor Gems

Swing Bridge Park & the Rock Island Swing Bridge

If you enjoy river views and wide-open skies, the Rock Island Swing Bridge over the Mississippi is a must. At Swing Bridge Park (4465 66th Street E), walk out on the 680-foot pier, explore the overlook, or take a stroll along the Mississippi River Regional Trail. A nightly LED light show plays every 15 minutes (with color changes between displays), year-round. There’s also a picnic shelter, restrooms, and water stations.

North Valley Park

This 58-acre wooded park at 2800 70th Street E is one of my go-tos. It’s got disc golf, pickleball courts, ball fields, picnic areas, and trails—lots of variety whether you want a casual walk or some friendly competition.

Trails, Bluffs & Natural Areas

For hiking and wildlife spotting, Pine Bend Bluffs Scientific & Natural Area delivers. With prairie fields, Mississippi River overlooks, and interpretive signage, it’s peaceful, scenic, and steeped in local habitat. Also, Vista Pines Park has mountain bike features, courts, and trails. Great for both exercise and scenery.

Indoor & Family-Friendly Fun

Nowhere Entertainment Center & AMC Inver Grove 16

On a rainy day (or just in the mood for air conditioning), head to Nowhere Entertainment for arcade games, mini-golf, and escape rooms. Or catch a movie at AMC Inver Grove 16 for the latest releases. Relaxed indoor fun with plenty of options.

Veterans Memorial Community Center (VMCC)

VMCC is home base for many local activities: fitness classes, indoor recreation, pool & splash features for kids, and more. Families especially love the amenities and seasonal programming here.

Events & Local Flavor

Community Events

IGH hosts multiple recurring events: Farmers Market (spring to fall), Music in the Park, Movie Nights, Food Truck Festivals, plus seasonal celebrations like Inver Grove Heights Days in September, with parades, fireworks, and more. Check the city events calendar so you don’t miss pop-ups and community favorites.

Places to Eat, Shop, & Relax

Some of the small-town gems here: Cahill Diner for classic brunch, Hometown Sweets for desserts, and Gertens for garden shopping and strolls. Drkula’s 32 Bowl & Pub adds fun evenings with bowling and family meals. Open Window Theatre offers performances for those who enjoy live arts.

Plan for a Weekend

To stretch your weekend: start with a river walk or trail on Saturday morning, grab lunch locally, spend the afternoon exploring parks or catching a show, and end with dinner at one of IGH’s laid-back spots. Sunday could be spa-style at home, or taking part in a seasonal event if one pops up.

Let me know if you want ideas focused just on kids, outdoor adventure, arts & culture—or something for date nights. I’ve got plenty more where this came from.
