Inver Grove Heights boasts a variety of parks and recreational activities suitable for all ages and interests. Whether you’re seeking a peaceful nature walk, a family outing, or a unique local experience, our community has something to offer.
Scenic Parks and Trails
Swing Bridge Park is a must-visit for breathtaking views of the Mississippi River. The park features a 680-foot pier extending over the river, providing panoramic vistas. A trailhead facility connects visitors to the Mississippi River Regional Trail, a 28-mile paved path ideal for walking or biking. The park also showcases historical elements, including an arch, railroad tracks, and a large gear from the original bridge. Color-changing LED lights installed in 2025 illuminate the bridge nightly, offering dynamic light shows. Park hours are from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
For those interested in disc golf, North Valley Park offers an 18-hole course winding through wooded terrain and open spaces, catering to both beginners and experienced players. The park also features baseball and softball fields, tennis courts, and nearly a mile of trails, including a paved bike path. Note that a day pass is required to play disc golf from May to September.
Family-Friendly Playgrounds
Community Center Park, adjacent to the Veterans Memorial Community Center, features a recently updated playground with bright colors, tall slides, and play areas suitable for children aged 2-12. Amenities include a climbing wall, swing sets for infants and older children, and a shaded picnic shelter with tables, making it an excellent spot for family gatherings.
South Valley Park is another family favorite, offering a spacious playground with swings, climbing walls, and spin equipment. The park also includes a picnic shelter, grills, and a softball field. A paved bike trail runs through the park, and during summer months, it hosts ‘Terrific Tuesdays’ with live children’s entertainment at 10:30 a.m.
