Explore Inver Grove Heights: Top Parks, Trails & Weekend Fun

Hi neighbors! I’m Mia Erickson, and I love spending weekends exploring what Inver Grove Heights has to offer. Whether you’re in pursuit of quiet nature walks, family fun or scenic vistas, there’s plenty to do—here are some local gems to add to your weekend plans.

Parks & Play Areas You Won’t Want to Miss

Heritage Village Park & Splash Pad

Located at 4321 65th Street, this park combines an off-leash dog area, a brand-new inclusive playground, and a splash pad. It’s perfect for families with young kids—or anyone who loves to have water fun in warm weather. Don’t forget: the splash pad operates from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. from June through early September.

Swing Bridge Park & Mississippi River Views

Walk out on the pier of the historic Rock Island Swing Bridge to enjoy sweeping views of the Mississippi River. Located at 4465 66th Street East, this park also connects to the Mississippi River Regional Trail. In recent years, color-changing LED lights have been added, with nightly light shows adding a magical touch.

Trails, Sports & Nature

North Valley Park

North Valley Park at 2800 70th Street E offers wooded trails, disc golf for varying skill levels, and courts for tennis or pickleball (non-lit). Bring your own gear or enjoy a day of friendly competition. Ideal for those who want a mix of activity and nature.

Harmon Park Reserve & Marianna Ranch Trails

Harmon Park Reserve has trails suited for mountain biking, and Marianna Ranch Trails offers peaceful walks among natural landscapes. They’re great if you want to get out, unwind and soak in Minnesota scenery without leaving town.

Indoor & Community Options (When the Weather Wins)

Don’t let rain or cold slow you down. Inver Grove Heights has fantastic indoor facilities like the Veterans Memorial Community Center, which includes everything from a water park to fitness centers, courts, turf and more. For family fun, reach out to Nowhere Entertainment for arcade games, mini-golf, and escape rooms.

Putting Together a Weekend Plan

  • Morning: Start with a walk or bike ride along the Mississippi River, maybe over the Swing Bridge. Grab coffee afterward at a nearby café.
  • Mid-day: Pack a picnic and take the family to Heritage Village Park or play some discs at North Valley. Let the kids enjoy the splash pad.
  • Evening: If you’re up for it, catch an indoor show or settle into good food—pair that with bowling, arcade games or a movie for a relaxed end to the day.

Inver Grove Heights is full of opportunities to get outdoors or enjoy family time. Wherever you go, take a moment to look up and enjoy the local beauty—whether it’s a river sunrise, forest trail or city lights on the bridge. You’ll find something refreshing right at home.
