Inver Grove Heights has a vibrant sports scene, ranging from youth clinics and high school competitions to adult leagues that bring the community together. Whether you’re cheering from the stands or lacing up your cleats, there’s plenty happening to keep athletes and fans engaged.
Youth Seasons & Rec Programs
Youth sports are a big deal here. The city’s Parks & Recreation department offers year-round programs for players as young as four, covering everything from T-Ball and slow-pitch softball to lacrosse, flag football, and ninja-warrior fitness. These programs focus on skill development, teamwork, and fun over scoring. Scholarships and financial aid are available to ensure everyone has a chance to participate.
IGH Youth Basketball
The IGH Youth Basketball Association provides developmental leagues for boys and girls in grades 3-8. The emphasis is on fundamentals—shooting, passing, defending—and on making the experience enjoyable. Community members can support through donations, sponsorships, or volunteering.
Other Opportunities
Not everything is structured like traditional leagues. RevSports offers shorter session-based classes in sports like baseball, basketball, flag football, and even specialty options such as pick-up pickleball and fitness. Great River Figure Skating Club trains skaters of all experience levels on the Veteran’s Memorial Community Center ice.
High School & ISD 199 Athletics
Simley High School, along with its middle school programs, plays in the Metro East Conference and runs a full suite of sports—soccer, track, tennis, golf, hockey, swim & dive, football, wrestling, gymnastics, and more. Notably, students have access to activities from 6th grade onward, including adapted sports that broaden participation for all abilities.
If you’re planning to attend games, keep in mind that seniors 60 and older are often eligible for free admission at home athletic events (excluding certain playoff or section events), which is a great way to support local athletes without breaking the bank.
Adult Leagues & Community Fitness
For adults, Inver Grove Heights delivers with plenty of options. Parks & Rec hosts adult softball, volleyball, and pickleball leagues that range from beginner to more competitive, plus drop-in fitness classes and gym access through the Veterans Memorial Community Center.
How to Get Involved
- Register early: Youth and adult programs often have registration windows with limited spots; monitoring the city and association websites is key.
- Volunteer: Coaches, referees, and helpers are always needed—many programs rely entirely on community volunteers.
- Stay informed: League schedules, conference updates, and home game info are usually posted online or through school district announcements.
Sports in Inver Grove Heights aren’t just about winning or losing—they’re about kids learning, communities connecting, and everyone getting a chance to move. Whether you’re a player, parent, or a fan, there’s a place for you here.
