Celebrating Culture Year-Round in Inver Grove Heights

Inver Grove Heights may lie just south of Saint Paul, but its arts and culture offerings are deeply local, dynamic, and growing. Whether you’re looking for inspiring music under the sky, community art, seasonal festivals, or creative projects with a purpose, there’s something here to enrich your calendar—and your spirit.

Sounds under the sky: Outdoor music, bands & festivals

During the warmer months, Inver Groove Music in the Park delivers free, family-friendly concerts at South Valley Park. These 45-minute performances—featuring acts like Will Sings Songs, KidPower, Riffin’ Griffin and others—invite residents to bring a blanket, a picnic, and enjoy local talent in an open air setting. It’s a great way to connect with neighbors and support performers from around the metro area.

Another steady presence is the Inver Hills Community Band, a volunteer group of about 45-50 musicians. Each season they offer concerts in the park, along with special spring and holiday performances. Their work helps anchor the local musical identity and offers regular, joyful access to live band music.

Annual festivals are also highlights. The signature is Inver Grove Heights Days, a multi-day celebration in early September with parades, food festivals, car shows, fireworks, and music—free to attend and deeply rooted in community pride.

Art, trails, community expression

Beyond music, visual arts and public creativity are growing in visibility. The Unity Trail Project is one such effort: a five-mile loop connecting city spaces and Inver Hills Community College, featuring interpretive spots, nature walks, and art benches. The project encourages participation from photographers, poets, nature lovers, and those looking to celebrate local history and culture.

Local shops and displays also make an impact. The display garden at Natural Landscape, though modest, offers visual delight and gives insight into landscaping and outdoor art. Special open-garden events allow visitors to experience art in natural form.

Keeping connected: Arts that build community

Many of the arts-and-culture opportunities in Inver Grove Heights do more than entertain—they connect and uplift. Whether it’s watching children engage with interactive shows in the park, attending craft fairs, or joining a community parade during IGH Days, these events give space for shared experience. The seasonal variety also means there is something to anticipate and look forward to—spring carnivals, summer concerts, fall festivals, and winter highlights like holiday tree lighting and art & craft fairs.

For locals and newcomers alike, I encourage exploring what lies nearby—walking trails with art, musicians in parks, traveling gallery exhibitions, and open mic nights at local restaurants. Each event you attend supports the creative fabric of Inver Grove Heights and strengthens the sense of belonging in our community.
