Exploring Inver Grove Heights: Parks and Activities to Add to Your Weekend Plans

Hi neighbors — Mia Erickson here with ideas for things to get out and enjoy in and around Inver Grove Heights—parks, attractions, indoor escapes and tasty spots to round out the weekend.

1. Outdoor Escape & Nature Treks

Rock Island Swing Bridge Park — Take in sweeping views of the Mississippi River from the iconic pier, stroll over the greenway trail, and stop to catch a sunset or the evening light show.

North Valley Park — With 58 acres of woods, open fields and trails, this park is perfect for disc golf or a walk. There are baseball and softball fields, a playground, pickleball courts, picnic areas and places to grill. Great if you want to mix quiet and active time outdoors.

Pine Bend Bluffs Scientific and Natural Area — A bit more rugged but totally worth it. You’ll hike among native prairies, watch birds, and take in the river valley from high bluff-top views.

2. Indoor & Family-Friendly Fun

Nowhere Entertainment — It’s a go-to on rainy days: arcade games, escape rooms, seasonally-themed haunted house attractions, mini-golf—something fun whether you’re visiting with kids or just friends.

AMC Inver Grove 16 — Catch the latest flick in comfort—lots of showtimes and close by. Perfect for a laid-back evening wind-down.

Veterans Memorial Community Center & Grove Aquatic Center — For swim laps, slides, or family splash times indoors, VMCC is a dependable choice, especially when the weather turns.

3. Best Eats + Hidden Gems

Gertens — More than a garden center: beautiful grounds, gift items, seasonal decor and plenty of inspiration. Pop in even if just to wander.

B-52 Burgers & Brew, Jersey’s Bar & Grill, and other local favorites are great for casual dinner nights; many have patios or outdoor seating so you can soak up some fresh air while you eat.

4. Parks & Amenities You Might Not Know

The city maintains over 30 parks, offering paved and unpaved trails, playgrounds, fishing piers, sled-ding hills, outdoor rinks, courts for basketball, tennis, pickleball, disc golf, off-leash dog areas, warming houses, and shelters for gatherings. There’s a lot here for all interests and all ages.

Heritage Village Park — Includes an off-leash dog park and accessibility features. Great if you have a furry pal in tow. The new inclusive playground is opening in this park soon.

Inver Wood Golf Course — An 18-hole championship and a 9-hole executive course surrounded by rolling terrain and water features, good for players of many experience levels.

5. Weekend Itinerary Ideas

  • Morning stroll over the Swing Bridge, then brunch nearby.
  • Afternoon of games or bowling at Drkula’s 32 Bowl & Pub or Nowhere Entertainment.
  • Sundays: swings + sand at a park + ice cream at a local sweet spot.
  • If feeling adventurous, take a short trip into the Twin Cities museums, zoo, or gardens—they’re an easy drive.

If you’re planning ahead, check for local events—pop-ups, bingo nights, food truck festivals and seasonal fairs happen often. And whatever you choose, there’s a neat mix in IGH so you can balance adventure, chill time, and good food.
