Explore Inver Grove Heights: Top Parks & Activities You’ll Love

Hi neighbors, it’s Mia Erickson here with your guide to enjoying Inver Grove Heights beyond your backyard. Whether you’re exploring with kids, pups, or flying solo, the area’s packed with parks, trails, and little gems worth knowing.

Parks & Outdoor Adventures

Heritage Village Park & Off-Leash Area

Located at 4321 65th Street, Heritage Village Park offers something for everyone. The off-leash dog park has separate sections for small and large breeds, while the adjacent inclusive playground and splash pad provide a fun, accessible place for kids. Trails, picnic shelters, and restrooms make it easy to linger. Splash pad hours are 10 a.m.–8 p.m., June through August.

North Valley Park

This 58-acre wooded patch at 2800 70th Street E features trails to wander, ball fields, and a disc golf course. Pickleball courts are lined out, too. With grills and picnic tables scattered throughout, it’s a solid match for family afternoons.

Rock Island Swing Bridge & Mississippi River Greenway

A memorable walk awaits along the 680-foot Rock Island Swing Bridge—one of our few pier walks over the Mississippi. From there you can merge into the Mississippi River Greenway, a stretch of paved trail that lets you soak up river views and rolling prairie without driving far. Sunset is especially good for scenery.

Pine Bend Bluffs Scientific and Natural Area

Want to disconnect? Pine Bend Bluffs, just south of the city, features bluff-top vistas and wildlife watching. Expect quiet wooded trails and lookout points. Perfect spot for a picnic, camera, or bird-watching.

Indoor & Mixed Activities

Nowhere Entertainment

Great for rainy days or when you need a break from nature. Mini-golf, arcade games, escape rooms, and even seasonal haunted house events. Something for all ages and energy levels.

Gertens Garden Center

More than plants—Gertens is a full experience. Whether you’re browsing outdoor décor, picking up new patio furniture, or just enjoying the colors, it’s a local favorite for inspiration and fresh air without committing to a full hike.

Dining with a View

Restaurants like Mississippi Pub and Overboard Bar & Grill combine tasty bites with scenic views. Head to patio spots when weather’s fair—you’ll often find live music, river breezes, and seats that showcase the natural beauty Inver Grove has to offer.

How to Choose & Tips

  • If bringing pets—call ahead to see if areas allow off-leash use and check hours.
  • Trail surfaces vary: paved for biking or walking, natural for hiking. Pick what suits you.
  • For splash pads and playgrounds, check current hours—summer features often close or shift hours in fall and spring.
  • Early mornings or weekdays bring solitude; evenings and weekends are more social and lively.

Whether you want adventure, quiet moments, or casual fun, there’s something close by waiting. Which place will you explore next?
