Getting Active in Our Community

Inver Grove Heights residents have great access to local fitness resources. The IGH Fitness Center is open Monday–Thursday from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., Fridays until 8 p.m., and weekends from morning until early evening. Drop-in group fitness classes—45 or more weekly—are offered for all levels. Memberships, daily admissions, and teen orientations are available. Fitness orientations help new users feel comfortable, learn how to use equipment safely, and plan workouts.

Fitness Center Tips

  • Start with a facility orientation to avoid injury and gain confidence.
  • Choose classes or trainers that match your schedule and physical level.
  • Include both strength training and aerobic activity; building muscle helps with everyday tasks and long-term mobility.

Supporting Mental Health Locally

Mental health can’t be ignored when it comes to overall wellness. In Inver Grove Heights, Metro Care Human Services offers inpatient mental health services and is accepting new patients.

For many, connecting with peers and using calming activities like walking or yoga helps manage stress. Finding a therapist or group support near home can make it more likely you’ll follow through with care.

Everyday Healthy Living Habits

Move More, Sit Less

National guidelines suggest getting at least 150 minutes per week of moderate aerobic activity—or 75 minutes of more intense workouts. Strength or resistance training for major muscle groups at least two days a week adds important benefits. Short bursts of movement during the day also help.

Eat Smart

Building meals around whole, minimally processed foods—fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein—helps support energy and well-being. Limiting added sugars, saturated fats, and high-sodium items will benefit heart health.

Caring for Mind and Rest

Aim for enough sleep (usually 7-9 hours for most adults) and make time for stress relief. Meditation, breathing exercises, or simply quiet time outdoors make a difference. Prioritize social connections and seeking help when needed. Staying mentally well supports physical health too.

How to Stay Motivated

  • Set small goals—walk 10 minutes after dinner, try a new recipe, attend one fitness class together.
  • Find a workout buddy or local group—support boosts accountability.
  • Track your progress in ways that feel fun, not overwhelming.
  • Celebrate small wins—new recipes, longer walks, better sleep.

Inver Grove Heights has the facilities, resources, and people ready to support you on your journey. Small choices every day lead to lasting changes. Let’s keep moving forward—stronger, calmer, healthier.
