In a recent decision, the Inver Grove Heights City Council approved a one-year moratorium on new data center constructions. This pause allows the city to evaluate the potential impacts of such facilities on local infrastructure and to develop appropriate regulations.
The moratorium was prompted by an application from T5 Data Centers to build a 5-megawatt, 55,000-square-foot facility at 5890 Carmen Avenue. Residents have expressed concerns about noise levels and the strain on water and sewer systems that such a development might bring.
During the moratorium, city officials will study suitable locations, zoning districts, and regulatory measures for data centers. This proactive approach aims to ensure that future developments align with the community’s needs and infrastructure capabilities.
Inver Grove Heights is not alone in this endeavor. Nearby cities like Rosemount have also enacted similar moratoriums, reflecting a regional effort to thoughtfully manage the growth of data centers.
