In a recent decision, the Inver Grove Heights City Council voted 3-2 to enact a one-year moratorium on the development of data centers within the city. This pause aims to allow city officials to thoroughly study the potential long-term impacts of such facilities on the community.
The moratorium was prompted by a proposal from QLevr LLC to construct a 54,000-square-foot data center on the former Travel Tags site along Carmen Avenue East. Residents have expressed concerns regarding environmental effects, noise levels, and the strain on local utilities that the facility might introduce.
City officials plan to use this period to evaluate the implications of data centers, including their impact on noise, water and sewer systems, and whether existing zoning codes require adjustments. The study will also consider the broader effects of data centers on the community’s infrastructure and quality of life.
Community members are encouraged to participate in upcoming public hearings and provide input on this matter. The City Council meets on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 6 p.m. at City Hall. Residents can also reach out to council members directly to share their perspectives.
