A Glimpse into Our History
Our city’s roots trace back to 1852, when settlers from Ireland and Germany were drawn to the area’s rolling green hills and proximity to the river. The Irish established themselves along what is now Rich Valley Boulevard, while German settlers cultivated the wooded farmlands in the northwest. By 1858, the Township of Inver Grove Heights was incorporated, and by 1880, the community boasted 240 farms, four churches, and four school districts. This rich tapestry of cultures laid the foundation for the diverse and welcoming community we cherish today.

Throughout the year, Inver Grove Heights hosts a variety of events that cater to all ages and interests. These gatherings not only provide entertainment but also strengthen the bonds among residents.
Spring Celebrations
As the snow melts and flowers bloom, our community comes alive with events like the Egg Hunts in March and April, the Craft Fair in March, and the Healthy Living Fair in April. These events offer opportunities for families to engage in fun activities and for local artisans to showcase their crafts.
Summer Festivities
The warm summer months are filled with activities such as the Huck Finn Fishing Derby in June, the Farmers Market running from June to October, and the Inver Groove Music in the Park series from June to August. These events provide platforms for local musicians, farmers, and vendors to connect with the community.
Fall Gatherings
As the leaves change color, we look forward to IGH Days in September, the Annual Clean-Up Event, and the Ghostly Gathering in October. These events celebrate our community’s spirit and commitment to maintaining a clean and vibrant environment.
Winter Traditions
The colder months bring us together for the Holidays in the Heights in December, the Noon Year’s Eve at the Veterans Memorial Community Center, and the South Valley Park Free Fun Day in January. These events offer warmth and joy during the chilly season.
Looking Ahead
Our community continues to grow and evolve. The city’s historic Rock Island Swing Bridge now boasts a nightly light show during the summer months, and we’re eagerly anticipating the opening of the area’s only inclusive playground and splash pad at Heritage Village Park in 2026. These developments reflect our commitment to inclusivity and providing spaces where everyone can come together.
